Insider Tips

  • 🦞
Lobster lunch: Several waterfront spots serve whole lobster and lobster rolls — Three Tides and the wharf-side eateries near City Landing are closest to the dock.
  • 🛳️
Small ships only: Belfast bans vessels over 50 passengers. If you're on a larger ship, Belfast will likely appear as a tender port at nearby Castine or Camden instead.
  • 💳
Cards accepted everywhere: Downtown Belfast is full of independent shops and restaurants; most take cards, but have a few dollars cash for the farmers' market or street vendors.
  • 🌦️
Layer up: Penobscot Bay fog and sea breeze make Belfast feel cooler than inland Maine — bring a light jacket even in summer.
  • 🛒
United Farmers Market: If your call falls on a Saturday, Maine's largest farmers' market runs indoors on Belfast's waterfront — great for local cheese, produce, and crafts.
