One of the smallest inhabited Dodecanese islands, Halki has no cars, no crowds, and water so clear it looks photoshopped. Small and boutique cruise ships call here for its unspoiled neoclassical harbour village of Nimborio and some of the calmest bays in the Aegean.
Halki's small harbour drops you directly into the village — no buses, no transfers needed.
💡 Pro move: Greece levies a per-person cruise arrival fee (introduced July 2025) collected by your ship or at the pier.
Nimborio's compact pier is the island's only landing point — and it puts you right in the village centre.
| Cruise Line | Typical Berth / Arrival | Dock or Tender |

Halki is a walk-it-yourself island — most highlights are reachable on foot, and the beach tavernas are half the appeal.
The island's medieval capital, built high on a hill to hide from pirates, was abandoned in the mid-20th century. A 2.5 km uphill hike from Nimborio leads through the eerily beautiful ruins to the Castle of the Knights of St. John with sweeping Aegean views.
Find Halki hiking tours →Halki's only sandy beach is a flat 10–15 minute walk west of the harbour. Shallow, family-friendly turquoise water, sunbed rental, and a good beachside taverna for lunch.
Find Halki beach tours →Two pebble coves within walking distance of town. Ftenagia (15 min south) has excellent snorkelling over rocky shallows; Kania (25–30 min north) is quieter with a small canteen. Both have sunbeds and crystalline water.
Find Halki snorkelling tours →Hire a local boat at the harbour to reach Alimia, an uninhabited neighbouring island with abandoned WWII Italian military ruins, a secluded bay, and some of the best snorkelling in the Dodecanese.
Find Halki boat excursions →Wander the pastel neoclassical mansions built with 19th-century sponge-diving wealth, then find the Church of Agios Nikolaos with its magnificent bell tower and courtyard of intricate black-and-white chochlakia pebble mosaics.
Find Halki village tours →Everything worth seeing in Nimborio is within a 30-minute stroll — longer walks lead to beaches and ruins.
Head west along the harbour front past the clock tower and tavernas, then follow the flat coastal track to Halki's only sandy beach. Return the same way or grab lunch at the beach taverna.
