From Kornmarkt, follow the Burgweg cobblestone path steeply up through the wooded hillside to the castle. The terrace offers the definitive Heidelberg postcard view. Return by funicular (included in castle ticket) if your knees prefer it.
Cross the Karl-Theodor Bridge (touch the Bridge Monkey for luck), then climb the Schlangenweg path up the north hill to the Philosophenweg. Walk the ridge path east for sweeping views of castle and Old Town before descending back to the bridge.
