Insider Tips

  • 🚌
You cannot walk out of the port. The port gates are secured. Every passenger must use the cruise-line shuttle bus or a booked excursion. Budget SAR 20-40 per person for the shuttle if your ship charges.
  • 👗
Dress code applies everywhere outside the beach. Shoulders and knees covered for both men and women in the city. An abaya is not required for foreign tourists in KAEC, but loose-fitting clothing is strongly recommended.
  • 💳
Saudi Arabia is nearly cashless. Visa and Mastercard are accepted everywhere — even food trucks. Apple Pay works on 5G networks. You may not need any SAR cash at all.
  • 🌡️
Heat is intense — only Nov–Mar calls are comfortable (25-30 °C). Summer calls can exceed 40 °C with high humidity. Bring sunscreen, a hat, and a refillable water bottle regardless of season.
  • 🚄
KAEC has a bullet-train station. The Haramain Railway runs to Jeddah (~40 min), Mecca (non-Muslims prohibited), and Medina (~1.5 hr). An independent day trip to Jeddah's Al-Balad historic district is very feasible on a long port call.
