Omaezaki Lighthouse Climb
Built in 1874 by British engineer Richard Henry Brunton, this working lighthouse is one of the few in Japan open for climbing. Spiral up for a 360° panorama of the Pacific and Suruga Bay — on a clear day, Mount Fuji floats on the horizon.
The local fish market hub is a short shuttle hop from the pier. Load up on katsuo no tataki (straw-seared bonito), shirasu rice bowls (raw or boiled whitebait), and green tea soft serve — all at very reasonable prices.
About 45 minutes inland, Kakegawa Castle is one of Japan's authentically reconstructed wooden castles (rebuilt 1994 using traditional techniques). The views from the keep and the charming castle town below make it a solid half-day excursion.
Shizuoka produces roughly 40% of Japan's green tea, and the Makinohara plateau is its epicenter — rolling fields of vivid green stretching to the horizon. Several farms offer tea-picking experiences and tasting ceremonies.

Cape Promenade to the Lighthouse

From the Nabura Market shuttle stop, follow the coastal path southwest along the cape toward the lighthouse. The paved promenade hugs dramatic sea cliffs with Pacific views. Finish with the lighthouse climb for the full panorama.
A relaxed loop around the Nabura Market seafood area and the adjacent Marine Park. Browse fish stalls, grab a shirasu bowl, and walk to the park viewpoint overlooking the breakwater-sheltered Rainbow Beach.
