Ponza is a tender-only port — your ship anchors in the sheltered bay and tenders run to Molo Musco, right in the heart of Ponza Porto.

Getting Ashore

  • 1
Tender to Molo MuscoShip tenders land directly at Molo Musco pier in the main harbor. You step off into the center of town — no transfer needed.
  • 2
Check tender schedulePonza is visited by boutique lines (Windstar, SeaDream, Seabourn, Ponant, Star Clippers) with modest passenger counts. Tendering is usually quick, but confirm last tender time before you head out.
  • 3
Wear walking shoesThe port area is flat, but the island is hilly with steep alleys, cobblestones, and staircases. Sandals or heels will slow you down.

💡 Pro move: Large megaships do not call at Ponza — the harbor is designed for fishing boats, yachts, and ferries only.

Insider Tips

  • 🚤
Renting a gozzo is the top activity. Harbor vendors rent small motorboats (no license required for small engines) from ~€80 for a half-day. Book as soon as you step off the tender — they go fast.
  • 💶
Bring cash (euros). Water taxis, bus tickets, small cafes, and beach loungers often don't take cards. An ATM is in Ponza Porto but lines can form.
  • 🏖
Chiaia di Luna beach is closed due to falling tufa rocks. The overlook view from above is still worth the walk — do not attempt to descend to the beach.
  • 🚌
Orange Schiaffini buses run from the port to Le Forna (north end) for about €1.50. Buy tickets at a tabacchi shop or on board. Good for reaching Cala Feola and the natural pools.
  • 🍝
Try spaghetti con la granseola (spider crab) or acqua pazza (fish poached in wine and tomatoes) — these are Ponzese classics, not tourist menus.
