A Petite Cité de Caractère on Brittany's wild north coast — corsair history, Gothic churches, seaweed spas, and the world's only AOC pink onion, all within a compact, walkable granite town.
How you arrive depends on ship size — most cruise vessels dock at the deep-water Port de Bloscon and run shuttles, while some smaller ships tender directly into the old port.
💡 Pro move: Brittany's tidal range is dramatic — the harbor can look completely dry at low tide. Ships and tenders time arrivals around the tide; this is perfectly normal.
Roscoff has two distinct arrival points depending on ship size.
| Cruise Line | Typical Berth / Arrival | Dock or Tender |
|---|---|---|
| Most cruise vessels | Port de Bloscon (deep-water terminal, ~2 km from center)📍 | Docked |
| Some smaller / expedition ships | Tender to Vieux Port (Old Port, town center)📍 | Tendered |
Roscoff punches above its small size — from a car-free island escape to medieval Morlaix and a renowned seawater spa.
Hop a 15-minute ferry from the Vieux Port footbridge to this car-free island. Rent a bike at the pier, explore sandy coves (Baie de Sainte-Anne, Grève-Blanche), visit the Georges Delaselle Exotic Garden, and climb the lighthouse for panoramic views.
Find Île de Batz tours →Wander 16th-century granite merchants' houses with turrets and gargoyles, visit the Notre-Dame-de-Croaz-Batz church (ship models inside, carved cannon on exterior), and spot the Maison Marie-Stuart where Mary Queen of Scots reportedly landed as a child.
Find Roscoff walking tours →Thanks to the Gulf Stream microclimate, this garden grows over 3,000 subtropical species from New Zealand, South Africa, and South America around a dramatic granite outcrop. Views from the top stretch across the bay to Île de Batz.
Find botanic garden tours →Roscoff's most quirky attraction tells the story of the 'Onion Johnnies' — Breton farmers who crossed the Channel by bicycle from 1828, selling the town's famous sweet pink onions door-to-door in Britain. Small, fun, and very local.
Find Roscoff cultural tours →30 minutes by road, Morlaix is a medieval town spanning a dramatic viaduct, with half-timbered houses (Maison de Pondalez, Duchess Anne's House), a covered market, and a vibrant cafe culture.
Find Morlaix day trips →Roscoff is the birthplace of thalassotherapy in France. The Valdys Resort offers heated seawater pools, hammam, sauna, and outdoor jacuzzis overlooking the bay — a perfect way to spend a sea day ashore.
Find spa and wellness tours →Roscoff's old town is entirely walkable; the coastal path west leads to beaches and sea views.
From the Vieux Port, walk east along the coast to the small white Chapelle Sainte-Barbe perched on a rocky headland. The 15-minute walk rewards with 360° views of the bay, Île de Batz, and the shipping lanes. Return the same way.
