Insider Tips

  • 👟
Wear comfortable shoes. Old Town streets are cobblestone throughout, and Toompea Hill requires stair climbing. Heels are a bad idea.
  • 🕐
Go early. Tour groups fill Town Hall Square by mid-morning. Head to Toompea first for the best photos before the crowds arrive.
  • 💶
Estonia uses the Euro. ATMs are plentiful in the Old Town. Most shops and restaurants accept card; small stalls may prefer cash.
  • 📡
Free Wi-Fi everywhere. Tallinn has extensive free public Wi-Fi throughout the Old Town — useful for maps and Bolt rideshare.
  • 🌧️
Pack a light layer. Baltic summers can be cool and changeable. A packable jacket is worthwhile even on sunny June days.

Getting Around

Transport options from the pier — taxis, shuttles, transit passes, and whether ride-share apps work here.

🚗 Ride-share: ✅ Bolt, UberBolt is headquartered in Tallinn and has the most drivers; Uber also operates but Bolt typically has quicker pickups. Expect €3–€5 to Viru Gate via app.

🚍 Hop-on Hop-off Bus

City Sightseeing and Red Sightseeing both serve the cruise terminal with extra departures on ship arrival days.
